John Yi is a 20-year-old flautist and singer from Princeton, New Jersey who is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Economics at Yale University. He studies flute under Dariya Nikolenko, while also performing as a member of the Yale Symphony Orchestra, Berkeley College Orchestra, and the a cappella group The Yale Alley Cats. In the past he has studied with Linda Chesis (Manhattan School of Music), Jihoon Shin, Barbara Highton Williams (Westminster Conservatory), and Jayn Rosenfeld (Princeton University). John frequently performs in masterclasses, having played for renowned flautists such as Jeffrey Khaner (Curtis Institute of Music), Jan Vinci (Skidmore College), Leone Buyse (Shepherd School of Music, Rice University), Paul Edmund Davies (Philharmonia Orchestra), Gary Schocker (New York University), and Bart Feller (NYC Opera, Mason Gross School of the Arts, Juilliard School). Aside from pursuing his studies and his passion for music, John enjoys running, playing tennis, fashion, and dance.
