Clare Monfredo, 20, began playing the cello at age six and her music has taken her to all over the world to China, Italy, the Czech Republic and Hungary, among others. For the past four years she has been a student of Ole Akahoshi at Yale University and Carol Ou at the New England Conservatory preparatory program in Boston.
Recently, Clare has been the recipient of the Benjamin Zander scholarship at New England Conservatory, the Bay Chamber Festival Ezra Rachlin Prize, and the Phillips Academy Cutter Prize for excellence in music. In addition, she has performed multiple times on the radio show “From the Top,” broadcasted on
NPR, and was selected by the show as a Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist for which she has received $10,000 to further her musical education.
In the past, Clare has attended music festivals such as Greenwood Music Camp, the Heifetz International Music Institute, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and the Bay Chamber Festival where she has studied under Steven
Doane, Amid Peled, Marc Johnson, and the Chiara String Quartet, among others.
